The Year in Review and Fun in the Sun!! Enjoy the summer break!

June 28, 2024

We have had a wonderful year packed with lots of different activities – We started off the year welcoming the King & Queen of the Road visitors to Scoil Naomh Eoin in September. In October some of our classes visited Blackrock Observatory for Engineering week and the other classes did lots of interesting STEM activities like scratch coding and building circuits and exploring environmental projects. We were delighted that all of these activities resulted in Scoil Naomh Eoin being awarded a Curious Minds STEM award.

After all the fun of dressing up for Halloween we were straight into practicing for the Christmas plays and performances.  We were so pleased to welcome some of the residents of Ballincurrig Care Home to the Christmas performance. We had another very enjoyable and successful Christmas Craft Fair again this year. We had visits from Santa Claus and after Christmas from Sparkles and her very cute lambs, the mobile library and the Fire Brigade to teach us about fire safety!

Spring term was full of fun activities like hurling training with Mike Mul, taking part in Sciath na Scol, 5-a-side-soccer, the 2024 féile fichille chess championship and world book day. This year we hosted the Scholastic Book Fair in the school hall and raised over €500 in book rewards for the classroom libraries.  We are very conscious in Scoil Naomh Eoin about the importance of good mental health. We are delighted we successfully renewed our Mental Health Amber Flag. We congratulate our students that won prizes in Midleton Agricultural Show, taekwondo competitions and wins at Cork City Sports this year.

Scoil Naomh Eoin is lucky to have a dynamic and talented Parent’s Association. We have them to thank for our fantastic Sensory Room and Outdoor Classroom resource – both rooms make a real difference to student learning experiences in the school environment.

We rounded off the year with our school tours, annual sports day, ice-cream day, teddy bear’s picnic, sixth class graduation ceremony and very successful fund raising coffee morning. Thank you to all who helped out with organising and running these events. Once again our fantastic school community of students, staff and parents worked together to make each and every event throughout the year special and memorable.

We wish all the very best to our sixth class students as they continue their educational journey on to secondary school. We know they take fond memories of their time in Scoil Naomh Eoin, Ballicurrig with them and we are very proud of these wonderful students.

We wish all our student and their families a fun-filled and relaxing summer break and we look forward to seeing you all again on the 29th August for the new school year!!!
