Green Schools

Green-Schools is Ireland’s leading environmental management and education programme for schools.

Promoting long-term, whole-school action for the environment Green-Schools is a student-led programme with involvement from the wider community. The programme is operated and co-ordinated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce (FEE member for Ireland).

Green-Schools is operated in partnership with Local Authorities and is supported by the Department of Housing, Planning, Community & Local Government; Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment; Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport; The Department of Arts, Heritage Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs; Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

There are a number of different areas that a school can prove knowledge and practical demonstration of conservation or promotion of a proactive approach to our environment.  If a school reaches a standard in these areas they can be awarded a Green School Flag.

The areas in which a school can earn a flag in are:

  • Litter and Waste
  • Energy
  • Water
  • Biodiversity
  • Travel
  • Global Citizenship – Litter and Waste
  • Global Citizenship – Energy
  • Global Citizenship – Marine Environment

Scoil Naomh Eoin are justly proud of our 4 green flag achievements and we are enthusiastically working towards our next flag. This is our Green Schools Noticeboard which is updated regularly. It includes an A1 map of the area, our Green Codes as well as all the latest news.

This is the contract that all Green school Committee members sign when they join.
